The composer, multi instrumentalist and ethno jazz musician NIKOLAI IVANOV OM is a recording artist from Bulgaria, a land that has always been a bridge between the East and the West. In his music, Nikolai Ivanov merges modern influences with different traditions, while remaining equally prolific in jazz, avant-garde, soundtrack and improvisation music, as well as in various electronic styles and esoteric- flavoured new age. The complete synthesis of expression as an emanation of the Free Spirit is his artistic creed. He has written the music for more than 35 films, shows, ballet performances, etc., with a discography of 20 plus albums. He is also an active performing artist playing both solo multi-instrumental shows and as part of various international projects. For more than 20 years now he is the heart and soul of OM, Bulgaria’s first ethno-ambient band. Nikolai has played in almost all of Europe, as well as in the Far East and China. Tracks by Nikolai Ivanov also feature in the ‘Musique et cinéma du monde’ series of the French label MK2. In 1996 he joined a group of actors and musicians to participate in the world’s top-spot concert on Mount Kala Patthar (5350 m.), in the region of Mt. Everest, listed in the Guiness Book of Records. But even higher than that is the aspiration for creating music with a special mystic vibration, one that is able to reach for our inner worlds, reiterate the crucial role of the melody line and elevate us above our daily routines and the clichés of contemporary musical landscape.
